For the past ten years, Abigail Werner’s passion has been driven to follow the path of the arts. While most people would be dubious at deciding their career path at age thirteen, she’s never been one to shy away from things that others might hesitate at. Though her art has evolved and her interests in her preferred art form has changed in the past decade, the various outlets of creativity that art provides the restless soul is something her mind has always been attracted to .
Werner prefers to call herself a multi-media artist— Labels have never been something she enjoys giving to herself. Though sculpture is her main area of focus, over half of her life has been spent dedicated to learning various different art types, such as photography, painting and drawing, sculpture, digital media such as animation, ceramics and metal-working. Along with this, the creation of recycled media pieces requires a certain amount of flexibility with different materials. Thus, she still enjoys using these different skills as she works, and doesn’t consider restricting her practices to one thing.
Currently, she’s pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree of Fine Arts at the University of Cincinnati. An Ohio native, Werner was born in Indiana before moving to Mason at age nine with her parents and younger sister. Having lived with one of Ohio’s amusement parks practically in her backyard, many summers were spent seeking thrills with her father, learning the history of Cincinnati and her family. Telling stories shaped her personality, aided by the guidance of her mother, an environmental scientist, who encouraged her to always be aware of the world around her, and her impact. She strives to always be creating, moving and experiencing new things.
About
“My goal with each of the works I create is to discover the underlying idea of figuring out my place in the world. Where do I belong, and how can I make a mark of my own on others for them to remember when I’m gone? That’s what inspires me— No creation goes without purpose at its core. Every work I create is a piece of myself I’m willing to share with the world, and in doing so I hope that work inspires others to think of their own place in the world.”
