In the U.S. alone, over 7.6 billion tons of industrial waste is produced each year. This includes waste products such as paint, plaster, solvents, toxins, and other potentially hazardous materials that can be dangerous to dispose of. Take a second to view this plant. What is natural, versus what is industrial? What do you notice about the materiality of this “plant?” This object aims to raise awareness of the waste products not only through an industrial lens, but with an artistic one as well. Be aware of its beauty, where it is displayed and how the light is allowed to encounter it. But maintain the awareness that without this sculpture, these recycled materials would become an overwhelming statistic concerning the waste we contribute to the Earth.
